Case Study: MVP to Market

TopCOder

I joined TopCoder in early 2024 to help them complete their AI driven MVP tool. The tool was built to help product managers/owners streamline the handoff of work by using AI to help write requirements, estimate LOE, and cost.

The tool would send the completed scope of work to the network of TopCoder crowd source talent to complete the work. The customer would receive several crowd source solutions and choose the top 3 that best fit their requirements.

Project Overview

Client: TopCoder

Role: Senior UX/UI Designer

Timeline: April 2023 – October 2023

Platform: AI project management tool

Goal: Improve user confidence in AI-generated project requirement writing and crowd sourced solutions.

Impact: Increased engagement with micro UX pathways that allowed users to transition seamlessly between automated recommendations and human-assisted project management.

mirco UI interactions

Early beta customer feedback told us they were bailing out of the AI tool at various points and seeking human help and input.

  • While the team developed a long term solution, I was tasked to create a quick UX/UI short term solution.

  • I did some user research with the product team to identify where and why the customer was abandoning automation in favor of human support.

  • With the where and why of the customer pain point, I was able to conceptualize a mirco-interaction to meet the customer on their journey without disrupting their workflow.

OUTCOME

Designed a contextual micro-interaction allowing the customer to pivot from self-serve automation to guided human assistance.

Manging copilots

TopCoder called their human assistance Copilots. Once the customer requested a Copilot, they needed a way to see who was assigned and an email to contact them. There was no messaging service within the MVP.

  • Created the end-to-end workflow from requesting a Copilot to assigned Copilot. (see video above for entire workflow)

  • Established a secondary profile in the header for the Copilot to easily access their contact information from any page.

OUTCOME

Accessibility to the customers Copilots from anywhere within the application.

HiFi - profile pic, first/last name, full email address.

Wireframe C - profile pic, first/last name, email, date they were requested to avoid duplicates, request button at the bottom.

HiFi - profile pic, first/last name, email address hidden and copied when the user selects the email icon.

Customer feedback Loop

Once customers submitted their scope of work, the TopCoder talent pool would get to work on submitting solutions. The customer choose the top 3 solutions to use in their project. My next task was to create a post work feedback loop to measure success.

  • Designed a post-delivery feedback framework to capture customer satisfaction with TopCoder talent submissions.

  • Captured feedback to evaluate project outcomes and quality of work.

  • Placement in the notification center allows the customer to provide quick feedback without having to access a special page.

OUTCOME

This feature was deprioritized in order to focus on other business priorities to make the MVP deliverable timeline.
